Dallas Burlesque Class – Update

No classes Labor Day!  All classes resume Monday, September 13th.

 

We’re making a few changes to our schedule.  Here’s what we have coming up:

 

-By request…we are adding a Saturday class!!

-We are moving our Burlesque Basics class time on Monday nights.  This in an introductory class offered at the drop in rate of $20 per class.

-Our featured workshop for September/October is the “Spellbound” Burlesque Workshop! This is a 4-class series, one hour a week for four weeks. We will offer the early registration rate of $45/and then regular rate of $60. First session begins Sept. 13.  We will offer a Performance Prep Workshop upon completion of the “Spellbound” session.  “Spellbound” Student Showcase performance date: Sunday, October 17th.

– We are offering the Performance Prep Workshop for the “Insatiable” students.  It is required to have attended the “Insatiable” workshop to attend Performance Prep.  If you wish to schedule private lessons to learn the choreography to attend this workshop, please contact me. The “Insatiable” dance was featured on Good Morning Texas.  Next student showcase:  Saturday, September 18 (Dallas, TX)

Our next student showcase, featuring live performances by our burlesque students from our Verandah Club Burlesque Body Sculpt classes and workshops, will be Saturday, September 18th in Dallas, TX.

The Velvet Kittens of Le Cabaret Burlesque will also feature a special show with our dancers.

Jazz Class this Saturday

House of Funk Theatre Company presents jazz class with Jana Edele, artistic director and choreographer of the Velvet Kittens of Le Cabaret Burlesque!

When:  Saturday, August 28, 2010

Time:  3:30 – 5:00 pm

Genre:  Jazz

Where:  Taylor Dance Center (1434 N. Central Expwy., McKinney, TX 75069)

Cost:  $15.00 (if RSVP by August 27), or $20.00 at the door.

Class is for ages 15+ and students must be experienced dancers to attend.  Proper attire required.  Observers are welcome for a fee to sit in on a class.  Students under 15 yrs must have written permission from their studio director. Students may RSVP through HOF Theatre Company.

Dancing at the Top

The Verandah Club at the Anatole Hilton in Dallas, home of the Velvet Kittens’ Burlesque Body Sculpt and Dance Classes, has been named one of the top three best hotel fitness centers (from September issue of Inc. Magazine).  Also on the list the Four Seasons in San Francisco and the W in downtown New York.  Congrats Verandah Club!

August Featured Workshop begins tonight

Insatiable Burlesque (Aug. 9, 16, 23, and 30th), 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Dance up a storm with classic moves of burlesque in this month’s featured burlesque series:  The Insatiable Burlesque Workshop.  This 4-class workshop combines characteristic American cabaret and burlesque choreography with the Burlesque Body Sculpt foundation. Classy, chic, and coy describe this playful choreography, incorporating the cabaret style of bowler hats and dance canes.  Set to the jazz song “Insatiable” written and recorded by Cara Young of local Dallas band Inner Frequency, the Insatiable Burlesque Workshop will sculpt your body while bringing out the inner Cabaret-Burlesque Kitten in you.  Tuition: $60.00

A preview of tonight’s “Insatiable” burlesque dance was performed on Good Morning Texas.

This workshop will be followed with an optional Performance Preparation workshop in September for class attendees to perfect their techniques, with a chance to perform live at a venue in late September.

Midnight Cabaret-Burlesque Show

The Velvet Kittens of Le Cabaret Burlesque will be performing Saturday, August 21st for the charity event, Can’t Stop the Serenity, benefiting Equality Now (international women’s rights advocacy group).  This all night event featuring five musical acts, the VK’s Cabaret-Burlesque show, and also a special performance by the Velvet Kittens’ very own burlesque students!

CSTS is held at Buzz Brews (4334 Lemmon Ave, Dallas TX 75219, 214.521.4334).  CSTS is asking for a $5.00 donation for Equality Now.

Can’t Stop the Serenity is a global series of screenings of the film ‘Serenity,’ held to raise money and awareness for Equality Now, an international women’s rights advocacy group.

Burlesque Workshop “The Hot Seat” begins Thursday!

Sizzle in the Hot Seat!!  Work up a sweat as you sizzle and burn in our burlesque workshop “The Hot Seat!” from our Summertime Blues Workshop Series!  “The Hot Seat” takes Burlesque Body Sculpting to a new level.  Beginning with stretching and toning, we then move to sassy burlesque dancing, working with our dance prop of the month:  the chair.  Learn how to utilize your core to create sultry poses and flirty dance movements in one burlesque dance number taught throughout the session. Chairs will be provided.  This is one full body workout you don’t want to miss!

The Hot Seat Burlesque Workshop – Thursday nights, 6:45 – 7:45 pm (August 5, 12, 19, and 26)

Dance Auditions

House of Funk Theatre Company is holding an open call for upcoming production: Spook Fest. HOF is looking for dancers and actors, and requesting actors prepare a brief skit from Michael Jackson’s “Ghosts.”

Audition Date:  Saturday, August 7

Time: 5:00 PM

Where:  Taylor Dance Center (1434 N. Central Expressway, McKinney TX 75069).

HOF requests:  dancers are warmed up when auditions begin and wear proper dance shoes (no barefoot) and proper dance attire, bring current headshot, bio and resume, be a minimum of 15 years of age.

Registration begins 30 minutes prior to audition.

Only those auditioning are allowed in the audition area.

Cost is $25 per person auditioning.

Broadway Intensive Workshop

From Taylor Dance Center (1434 N. Central Expressway, McKinney TX 75069, taylordancecenter.com):

Students get a glimpse into the life of Broadway with this 2 hour intensive taught by Radio City Rockette, Corinne Tighe.

Dancers 11 & up are eligible to attend.

Date:    Thursday, August 5th

Time:    6:30 – 8:30

Fee:      $50

The goal of this workshop is to give students the opportunity to discover and develop their optimum potential in a fun and nurturing workshop. It is designed for young artists looking to springboard their careers with the unique opportunity of introduction and feedback from New York ’s top industry.  During the workshop students will have a mock audition and a Q & A session to learn some of the fun facts of a career on Broadway.

Take advantage of this amazing opportunity to work with Corinne Tighe, 8 year veteran of the world renowned dance troupe and current member of the NYC Radio City Christmas Spectacular Cast. Corinne also works in musical theatre in addition to her work as a gifted professional dance instructor in New Jersey . Corinne’s bubbly energy and sense of humor are paired with a patient spirit and highly disciplined professionalism.

Learn celebrated routines and priceless advice on living the life of a dancer in New York !

Corinne Tighe is a proud member of the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. She began touring nationally at as a Rockette at the age of 18 and in 2005, was honored to become a member of the Gold Cast of the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular! Corinne has appeared in national corporate industrials and has performed in regional production of hello dolly, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Crazy For You and The King and I. Some favorite credits include the 2004 Tony Awards Opening Number with Hugh Jackman, the WNBA New York Liberty half-time performance, the Regis and Kelly show and the 2007 and 2009 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Corinne has been a dance educator in New Jersey for 8 years, teaching tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, modern, musical theatre and “kinder” dance. She trained at Broadway Dance Theatre and Chez Renee in New Jersey . In Manhattan , she trained with Sheila Barker, Michele Assaf and others at Broadway Dance Center and at Steps on Broadway. Corinne is a gifted dancer and teacher, able to reach each student “where they are.” With her combination of humor, high energy, sensitivity and professionalism, she inspires her students to attain their personal best. In her “spare time,” Corinne received her B.S. degree in Business Management Science from Kean University .
